Shops for all tastes

As a major European city, Lyon has a comprehensive retail offering, including luxury boutiques, department stores and shops run by independent designers. From the Presqu’île to the slopes of Croix-Rousse hill, the old town and Part-Dieu, Lyon’s shops have something to suit all tastes.

Luxury boutiques

Between Place Bellecour and Cordeliers, in the heart of Lyon’s Presqu’île district, lies an exclusive, luxury shopping area known as the Carré d’Or, with more than 70 boutiques. The biggest names in French luxury, such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Hermès, will welcome your clients and offer personalised advice.

Department stores

On Place de la République in the city centre, Printemps welcomes shoppers in its historical nineteenth-century buildings, for a shopping experience that blends new trends and great classics – all in the spirit of the department stores of the period!

For a taste of the French art of living, head to Galeries Lafayette in the Part-Dieu shopping centre or Mermoz, where you will find fashion, accessories, beauty products and tableware.

Shopping centres

Boasting some 200 shops, the Part-Dieu shopping centre has to be Lyon’s biggest magnet for shoppers! With fashion, culture, interior decoration, the Galeries Lafayette department store, sports goods stores, and high street fashion retailers such as Primark and H&M, there’s plenty of choice for kids and adults.

The Confluence Shopping centre offers an attractive modern ambiance, with its open and airy “yacht-style” building in the heart of Lyon’s recently developed district, and more than 70 shops, 25 restaurants and a cinema.

Just half an hour from Lyon, The Village is a shopping outlet that brings together 120 brands, offering discounts of up to 70% all year round. A great new shopping experience on the doorstep of Lyon!

High streets

In the Presqu’île district, the ground floors of the nineteenth-century buildings are home to boutiques and big-name shops.

Mostly pedestrianised, Rue de la République runs one kilometre from Place Bellecour to Place des Terreaux (Lyon’s two main squares). Retail chains and department stores (such as Printemps) offer a superb shopping experience right in the centre of Lyon!
Near Rue de la République, Rue Grolée is coming back to life following several years of works. Uniqlo and the Hard Rock Café have given a new lease of life to this new shopping area in the city centre.
On Rue Emile Zola, fashionistas will find many high-profile brands.
To the south of Place Bellecour, Rue Victor Hugo, which is entirely pedestrianised, remains home to small independent shops and some surprising gems!

The Grand Hôtel-Dieu de Lyon, a building classed as a historical monument, has been totally redeveloped to welcome visitors and shoppers, with shops and restaurants located in its attractive inner courtyards.

Independent designers

At the bottom of the slopes of Croix-Rousse hill, unique shops sell a wide selection of small gifts that are hand-made or made in France. Take a stroll along Rue des Capucins, Rue Sergent Blandan or Rue Romarin to discover them.

To the south of Place Bellecour, around Rue de la Charité and Rue Auguste Comte, designer furniture shops display their wares. Find furniture, light fittings and decorative objects to create an attractive, trendy interior for your home.
Metro line A, ‘Bellecour’ station.

Vintage and antiques shops

Les Puces du Canal is the place to go for second-hand and antique goods in Lyon. France’s second largest flea market attracts some 500 exhibitors and welcomes shoppers and visitors on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sunday mornings.
There are also characterful cafés and even a gastronomic brasserie to take a break and recharge your batteries.

You will also find many antiques dealers and galleries along Rue Auguste Comte, just to the south of Place Bellecour.

Arty shops

Every Sunday morning between 8 am and 1 pm, stallholders set up along the banks of the Saône in the Vieux-Lyon (Old Lyon) district for the Marché de la Création. It is a great opportunity to chat with painters, sculptors and artisans, who will be more than happy to share their passion and talents with visitors.
Address: Marché de la Création, Quai Romain Rolland, 69005 Lyon. Metro line D, stop ‘Vieux-Lyon’

Around Place Bellecour and Rue Auguste Comte, galleries display their favourite artworks and latest discoveries.

In the Croix-Rousse district, Rue Burdeau is the street for galleries in Lyon. With photography, plastic arts, contemporary art and more, styles come together and interact, in a neighbourhood that is also popular for street art.

Where to find souvenirs in Lyon?

For edible souvenirs, head to the indoor food market Halles Paul Bocuse, where you can buy local specialities and wines in easy-to-carry packaging.

In the Vieux-Lyon district, you can find souvenir shops all along Rue Saint-Jean. A Guignol puppet ? A silk square ? There is something for everyone !
