Museum of firefighters of Lyon Rhône
358 avenue de Champagne - 69009 Lyon 9ème
Tracing 250 years of history, the museum presents a collection of equipment, clothing, helmets and vehicles used by firefighters in the Rhône region and France (but not only!), and offers temporary exhibitions that are renewed every year.
The Lyon Rhône Firefighters Museum offers guided tours, workshops, activity books, and children's activities upon reservation, particularly during school holidays. It also has a shop.
The vehicles on display (between 5 and 7) are regularly changed to show a larger part of the truck collection (most of which - 150 vehicles - can be seen in the museum's reserves, which are open during Heritage Days or special events).
The museum, which was awarded the ‘Musée de France’ label in 2005, is divided into several sections:
- pumps from the 17th century to the present day, different types and models
- small equipment and clothing: items for firefighting, rescue, resuscitation, diving, etc.
- a unique collection of French and foreign helmets from the early 19th century to the present day (one of the largest collections in the world)
- a memorial room: trophies, flags
- vehicles (between 5 and 7, depending on the exhibition).
