From 21 June 2025, Lyon’s Presqu’île district will be transformed with the introduction of a Limited Traffic Zone (ZTL – Zone à Trafic Limité).

Please note that the zone will be progressively rolled out over summer 2025, with modifications and adjustments planned during this period.

Last updated date : 06/06/2025

Why introduce a ZTL?

Greater Lyon, the City of Lyon and SYTRAL Mobilités are committed to a redevelopment of the Presqu’île to be completed by 2030, to make the district a pleasant place for all its users, including families, workers, visitors and shopkeepers.

How will this be achieved? By greening its streets and squares, giving more room for pedestrians, bicycles and public transport, and by increasing comfort for all. As part of this scheme, the city centre will be unclogged by limiting through traffic.

What is the extent of the zone?

It will extend from the slopes of Croix-Rousse hill (south of Rue des Capucins) down to the north side of Place Bellecour, with a special exemption for the banks of the Rhône and Saône.

5 access bollards with regulate entry to the zone:
- Two entry points on the Rhône side: Rue Gentil and Rue Childebert
- Two entry points on the Saône side: Rue Constantine and Rue du Port du Temple
- One entry point by Place Bellecour: Rue du Président Edouard Herriot

Please note: while the zone is being set up, temporary entry points will be provided.
Entry points on the Saône side: Rue du Port du Temple and Rue de la Platière
Entry point on the Rhône side: Rue Gentil
Entry point by Place Bellecour: Rue Gasparin

Access to 18 public car parks will be maintained and remain accessible to all.

Here is a list of all car parks in the Presqu’île.

How will coaches be able to use the Limited Traffic Zone?

Tourist coaches are among the permanent rights holders for the zone and are treated as a mode of public transport. Coach drivers will not need to provide a supporting document in the event of an inspection.

·         From 6 am to 1 pm: entry bollards to the ZTL are lowered: coaches can freely circulate

·         From 1 pm to 6 am: entry bollards to the ZTL are raised: drivers can use the intercom at the bollard to request access

How will private vehicles be able to use the Limited Traffic Zone?

Only vehicle users with a valid reason to enter the zone will be authorised.

For visitors staying at a hotel in the Presqu’île district: access is authorised. The access code to be entered at the zone entry bollard will be provided a few days in advance by the hotel.

For visitors staying at an apartment or furnished accommodation in the Presqu’île district: access is authorised. Visitors should contact the owner of the accommodation.

For visitors dining at a restaurant located in the Presqu’île district: they will need to park at one of the 18 car parks in the Presqu’île that remain accessible. Access all the way to the restaurant will only be allowed for vehicle users with reduced mobility.

People with reduced mobility: permanent access to the zone will be authorised for this user group.
They can simply request access via the interphone at the bollard.
They will need to show their CMI (Carte Mobilité Inclusion – Inclusion Mobility Card) at the windshield, following the instructions given by the operator.

VTC and taxis will continue to have permanent access to the Limited Traffic Zone, so it will remain possible to drop off and pick up passengers at hotels and restaurants.

There will continue to be a charge for roadside parking in the Limited Traffic Zone.

How to cross the Presqu’île from north to south and east to west?

To cross the Presqu'île by car from east to west, we recommend going through the Croix-Rousse tunnel to the north, or around the edge of Place Bellecour to the south.

To cross from north to south, we recommend going along the banks of the Rhône and Saône, which remain accessible without restrictions.
