Practical information for group travel in Lyon
Would you like to use public transport during your group’s stay? If so, you’ll find all the practical info you need here.
The City of Lyon has France’s second largest public transport network. Providing dense coverage, it is fully accessible for passengers with reduced mobility and offers a sustainable way to explore the destination.
To best prepare for your group’s arrival, here is the important information you need to know:
- The transport network is not divided into zones; a single ticket can be used throughout the network and on all transport types, including metro, tramway, bus and funicular lines.
- Return trips and connections between all transport types are possible for as long as the ticket is valid.
- Since February 2024, the old red TCL tickets are no longer valid and have been replaced by a contactless card that costs €0.20 and can be recharged up to 10 times.
How to buy these cards:
- Contactless cards can be purchased at all of the network’s self-service machines, with payment by bank card. You can then load the desired ticket type onto the card.
You can find all available tickets and prices here. - Tickets can be pre-ordered from the Bureau Administration et Collectivités by e-mail: [email protected] or by post: Bureau Administration et Collectivités TCL – 6 place Bellecour – 69002 Lyon
Options for groups:
- One-hour group ticket: The group ticket is reserved for groups of 10 people or more travelling together. It enables use of the entire public transport network for one hour (including connections and return trips).
It is possible to load up to 15 one-hour group tickets on a single contactless card, which costs €0.20, so the guide/assistant can keep all of the group’s tickets on a single card.
Further information and prices available here. - Day ticket for schoolchildren: The TCL Pass – Tarif Réduit (reduced fee) applies to groups of 11 people or more, aged under 18. It enables use of the entire public transport network for one day. Important: people in the group may travel together or separately.
Please note: concerning day tickets for groups, 1 day ticket = 1 contactless card. You will therefore need to plan for 1 contactless card per person and add €0.20 per person to the price of the ticket (cost of the contactless card).
Further information and prices available here. - Day ticket for adults: the TCL Pass applies to groups of 11 people or more, aged over 18.
