Brochier Soieries Vieux Lyon
16 et 21 rue du Boeuf La Tour Rose - 69005 Lyon 5ème
At the foot of the Pink Tower, in the heart of the Old Lyon, officially labeled "Made in Lyon and its surroundings" and "Made in France", the largest collection of Lyon silks, made by the Brochier workshop in the 1st district of Lyon.
The last silks manufacturer in Lyon intramural, Brochier Soieries is part of the still-living heritage, heir to a tradition born in the 16th century: the manufacture in Lyon of exceptional fabrics from natural silk threads.
Since the company's founding in 1890, four generations have been perpetuating the Lyon silk tradition, combining a deep appreciation for craftsmanship with a keen artistic sensibility. The Brochier Soieries collection contains over 100,000 textile designs representing all periods of art history.
As Cédric Brochier, the fourth generation of the family, says:
"Today, we live in a globalized world in which people and goods move extremely easily and quickly. It's clear that most of the products we wear or use daily come from countries where labor costs are low and the attention paid to compliance with trade laws is questionable. I believe in a different vision.
I live and work in Lyon, a city known worldwide for its expertise in textiles, particularly silk, the creativity and quality of its workmanship, and its sense of design. I am proud to say that since 1890, our silks have been designed, produced, and entirely finished in France by expert hands who work passionately, respecting the tradition and quality that still characterize Made in France products today."
The archive scarves, including Raoul Dufy textile designs, are still printed using the traditional Lyon screen printing technique, inspired by the manual stencil process. More than 3,000 printing screens bring old designs to life, some of which were created in the early 20th century.
The Jacquard weaving technique is still used to create woven neck ties and woven hand-painted napped velvet, unique pieces, a Lyon tradition dating back to the mid-19th century in the Loire region, where the weaving workshop, a Living Heritage Company, is still located.
Also to keep with the contemporary trend, for 70 years Brochier Soieries has become the reference for the reproduction of works of art on silk, combining traditional techniques with new generations of high-definition digital printing. In close collaboration with the world's greatest museums - Musée d'Orsay, Centre Pompidou, MOMA, Guggenheim and many others - Brochier Soieries prints scarves and neck ties by world-renowned artists such as Cézanne, Monet, Matisse, Dali, Botticelli, Kandinsky, Pollock and many others. And every year, following the current exhibitions, the Brochier catalogue is enriched with new museums and new artists.
