Alter'Hostel is an independent youth hostel with a cultural offering that expresses its social and environmental engagement. The hostel provides accommodation in dormitories for 6 to 16 people, including a women-only dormitory.

Alter’Hostel is an independent hotel/hostel located in an exceptional setting on the banks of the river Saône in Lyon, just a 20 minute walk from Vieux-Lyon (Old Lyon) and the slopes of Croix-Rousse hill (known locally as ‘Les Pentes’).

More than just a place to stay, it is above all a place where respect for people and the living world come first.
Experience a different approach to accommodation by using the ecological facilities provided and, if you wish, by getting involved in Lyon’s non-profit scene. The basic idea is to take part in the life of the youth hostel. The communal areas are welcoming spaces that encourage people to come together around a drink or impromptu meal.

This unique living space runs workshops in partnership with local non-profits, where you can make household cleaning products, take part in film debates, and learn about food waste.
By staying at Alter Hostel, you can reduce your environmental footprint and help grow alternative tourism. You will find dry toilets, a collective composter, local products sold unpackaged, and a bike and canoe hire service, which are just a few examples of the environmental dimension of this living and accommodation space.

L’Alter’Hostel propose des dortoirs de 6 à 16 personnes ainsi qu’un dortoir féminin. None of the dormitories face the street, to ensure your nights are peaceful. Communal areas, including the kitchen, and the living room with mezzanine and a large glass roof, offer spaces for the hostel’s guests to meet and chat in a friendly atmosphere.
Lastly, a bar serves craft beers, local and organic wines, and a selection of snacks (also local and organic).

The Alter’Hostel has been certified by ‘Lyon, Ville Equitable et Durable’ (Lyon, fair and sustainable city) since 2018, as well as ‘Buycott’, an initiative that supports the social and solidarity economy. In 2020, it received a sustainable tourism award from ‘Les Palmes du Tourisme Durable’, in the independent accommodation provider category.
