For the last 50 years, the name of Gerland has been synonymous with football. Gerland is one of the oldest stadiums in France, and its design was inspired by Roman architecture.

It was built by Tony Garnier in 1919 and renovated by Albert Constantin in 1998 for holding World Cup matches.

To begin with, this Historic Monument was designed as an general sports stadium intended for holding major popular events.
